For the continuous production of combustible gas from organic material, in particular from organic wastes, the wastes are dried in a continuous mass flow, degassed and gasified with an added gasifying agent. A shaft furnace (4) is used here, in which the shaft is separated from the downstream chamber by a passage (19) in the form of annular gap or longitudinal gap. In a first procedure, all processes take place in the loose bed (15) of material located in the shaft. For a second procedure - for achieving higher throughputs - an apparatus having a shaft furnace with a likewise gap-shaped passage is provided, a first chamber (34), for example a rotary kiln, in which drying and degassing down to the formation of coke is carried out being arranged upstream of the shaft furnace. In both process variants, the gasifying agent is added in the flow direction of the material, and in particular not later than the start of the gasification phase. The addition of the gasifying agent is here controlled as a function of the composition of the material, especially as a function of the temperature which establishes itself in the red-hot bed. <IMAGE> |
