N-alkenyl moranoline derivs. ≮I; R1 = benzyl, benzol, acetyl; R = Ia, Ib (n = 1, 2, 3); X = halogen, alkylsulfonyloxy, arylsulfonyloxy≉, useful for inhibition of increasing blood sugar, were prepd. by reacting compd. (II) with active alkenyl compd. (R-X) in the unreactive solvent in the presence of deoxidizer followed by elimination of R1 group. Thus, anhydrous potassium carbonate 5.4g and isoprenyl bromide 5.4 g were added in DMF 20 ml soln. of tetra-o-benzyl moranoline 5.0 g, stirred at 60-70≦̸C for 4 hr, extracted with benzene, and then purified with benzene-ethyl acetate 1:1 mixed soln. to give compd. (I; n=1). (m.p. 140-142≦̸C).
