PURPOSE:To perform the selective hydrogenation of the highly unsaturated hydrocarbons in the titled mixture while suppressing the isomerization, etc. of 1- butene, by using a catalyst obtained by doping palladium, etc. to the surface layer of granular gamma-alumina to a specific depth, and calcining the granula at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:The outer surface layer of granular gamma-alumina is doped with palladium or a palladium compound to a depth of <=0.3mm., pref. <=0.15mm., and the granule is calcined at 700-1,000 deg.C, pref. 750-950 deg.C. A 1-butene mixture containing small amount of highly unsaturated hydrocarbons such as dienes, acetylenes, etc. is hydrogenated in liquid phase in the presence of the catalyst obtained above, to effect the selective hydrogenation of the highly unsaturated hydrocarbons while suppressing the isomerization and hydrogenation of 1-butene, thereby reducing the content of the highly unsaturated hydrocarbons. Since the necessary amount of palladium in the catalyst is small, and the catalyst has high durability, the process is economical. |
