The aim is to position the coupling piston and/or brake piston against the stop making little noise each time the frictional engagement is released. The object is therefore to reduce noise using simple, directly acting and operationally reliable elements, without losing time. According to the invention, this is achieved in that a compressed air reservoir and a choke are arranged in each case in the pipe between the control valve and the compressed air reservoir and in the outlet pipe between the control valve and the sound absorber. Once the brake has been engaged and the coupling has been disengaged, because of the shape of the compressed air reservoirs, forces are adjusted in each case via equalisation of pressure between the compressed air reservoirs, which causes the frictional engagement to be discontinued and the brake piston and/or coupling piston to move almost out to the stop in the release position. Positioning against the stop is carried out by further filling of the brake cylinder and/or by further deaeration of the coupling cylinder via the associated choke in each case. <IMAGE>
