The chain connector (1) is fixed to one chain link using a retaining pin (6). The other half of the connector has an entry slot (2) for the chain with a second slot (9) at right angles to this. An L-shaped housing (15) is located in each inside face of the slot (9). A retention hook (10) has two locating pivots (13) which engage in the L-shaped housings and a tongue (14) which acts as a lock in the closed position. A notch (17) snaps over a projection (19) under the spring force of a tongue (4), to lock the hook in position. The hook can move slightly in the pivot housing to facilitate release.
