PURPOSE:To obtain efficient control by controlling put on of the light in a side erasing unit, by sensing opening and closing of a holding cover for an original in the control unit of an electronic copying machine and discriminating the width of an image formation area on a photosensitive material. CONSTITUTION:A side erasing unit 13 is placed between a charger 12 for electric charging and a developing unit 14. Charge charged other than the copy exposure area is removed, to prevent on the part other than the image portion of toner from adherence. The lamp of the side erasing unit 13 consists of lamps 13a-1 and 13a-2 located near the center in the width direction of a drum 11 and the lamps 13b-1 and 13b-2 located near the outside, and this is controlled if necessary. This control is performed by a side erasing control circuit 51. The outputs of said control circuit 51 is controlled by CPU50 of microcondensor. A high pressure power supply 52 which supplies power to the charger 12 for charging is ON/OFF controlled by CPU50 which interlocks with copying operation. |
