A process for the multilayer coating of conductive articles consists in applying a prime coat by the electrocoating process, the article being connected as cathode, in incompletely crosslinking the prime coat by heat to at least 10% below the maximum degree of crosslinking and in applying a, possibly pigmented, top coat and, if appropriate, a clear coat by spraying, immersion, flow-coating or rolling and completely curing all coats jointly by high-energy radiation, in particular electron beams.
