PROCESS FOR PRODUCING MODIFIED PHENOLIC RESIN

Modified phenolic resin was prepd. by reacting formaldehyde and reaction product (I) as one part of phenols. Thus, isopropenylphenal (or oligomer of isopropenylphenol) and drying oil (iodine number is 140, content of conjugated double bond is <= 50%) were reacted with phenols (or without phenols) in the presence of acid catalyst. The intermediate was reacted with phenols in the presence of acid catalyst to give compd (I).
