A hammer device for a printer has a hammer part which is formed from a releaser and a rectangular, fixed, rigid part. One side edge of the fixed part is guided displaceably by flanged-on, rotating bearings which are arranged and fixed on a reference side, while the other side edge is guided displaceably by another flanged-on, rotating bearing which is arranged and fixed on the opposite side. The hammer part then carries out a precise translatory movement towards and away from a daisywheel so that the releaser can be brought into contact with a desired type releaser so that a character is printed with excellent quality.
