A seal for a crank-shaft or gear-box shaft comprises a U-shaped casing 1, 2, 3 and two bevelled sealing rings 7, 8 urged by a common helical spring 6 so as to act radially towards the shaft and in axially opposite directions. The rings may be made on a textile base and from elastomers or synthetic plastics, the radial sealing surfaces being cylindrical as shown or lip-shaped. The casing may be made of metal or synthetic plastics and, if desired, may contain a lubricant or be connected to suction.</p> |
