Winding-frame spindle with package-tube clamping pins - movable radially by longitudinal displacement of wedge=shaped elements

The spindles of a yarn winding frame have clamping devices to grip the package tube comprising a series of radial pins projecting through apertures in the spindle casing. The inner ends of the pegs have an inclined face resting against longitudinally-movable wedge-shaped elements which effect a radial displacement of the pins. The wedge elements form part of a ring-shaped slider which is pressed beneath the pegs by springs to engage the clamp. The opposite end of the slider abuts a piston enclosing an annular chamber into which compressed air can be fed along the spindle axis, thereby compressing the springs to withdraw the wedges and allow retraction of the pins. The clamping elements are relatively small, and can be as numerous as required, even on relatively narrow spindles. They automatically adjust to variations in the inner diameter of the package tube, and a large clamping force is produced from a comparatively small longitudinal force.
