Close coupled lorry and trailer unit - has central telescopic drawbar and lateral towing brackets

The rear of the lorry is fitted with a towing frame straddling the central coupling for the drawbar while the trailer is fitted with two lateral frames which grip the towing frame each side of the coupling and form a rigid unit. When the vehicles turn into a curve the lateral force unlocks the catch on the outside of the bend and the telescopic drawbar extends. The drawbar steers the front axle of the trailer while the force of the tow is taken by one or both of the towing brackets. The trailer is close coupled to the lorry and the available loading length is increased.
