The alarm system has an alarm triggering device (9) which is mounted at a distance from the closing plate (4) on the side of the door cladding (2) facing the room to be protected. The free end (19) of a probe lever (16) rests on the closing plate (4) and has a switch contact which is at a short distance from a switch contact which is fitted to the edge (20) of the side wall (21) of the device (9) facing the door (6). If an intruder breaks open the door (6), the closing plate (4) presses the probe lever (16) with its switch contact against the switch contact on the edge (20) of the side wall (21), as a result of which a siren (26) is triggered. The probe lever can also trigger a sound generating device which is driven by compressed gas. The triggering device (9) can be fitted to any existing doorpost and triggers even on an attempt to break open the door, before major damage occurs. <IMAGE>
