A copier for producing multiple copies has an original holder for holding an original of which multiple copies are to be produced, and an optical system for bringing the original to a position desired in terms of imaging, the optical system representing a part of the exposure system of the device. Either the original holder or the optical system is displaceable or can be moved back and forth with respect to the other part, which is fixedly arranged in the device. Furthermore, a waiting time control device is provided in the device, so that the original holder or the optical system stays for a further predetermined time in the initial position in accordance with the size of the original or of the copying paper. <IMAGE>
