A roof rack for assembly on a vehicle roof is composed of at least two supports with feet which rest on the roof. Spring elements are present inside the supports, project laterally from the support and are used to fasten the roof rack in a secure but releasable fashion. Holding elements, e.g. for skis or universal elements, are arranged on the supports to permit the transport of articles.
