Equalising conveyor 1 primarily intended to equalise speeds and/or capacities between two consecutive transport elements 2, 3, such as carrier-equipped chain conveyors in an adjustment mill for lumber pieces. According to the invention, the equalising conveyor contains carrier-free endless elements 15, such as chains, on which the pieces of lumber 9, 10 are intended to rest and be transported by friction between the piece of lumber 9; 10 and the element 15. Furthermore, the equalising conveyor contains a set of hooks 17-20 or other braking elements arranged so that in a first position they are situated with their upper parts 24 above the upper level of said element 15 and in a second position they are below said level, so that in the first position they stop and hold a piece of lumber and in the second position they release a piece of lumber.
