Trichloroacetic acid anilide-, phenyl ester- and acyl hydrazide derivs. having formula C13C-CO-X-Ar (I) (where X is -O-, -NR- or -NH-NH-; R is H, 1-6C alkyl, cyclohexyl or Ph and Ar is a Ph, naphthyl, pyridyl, quinolinyl, benzimidazoolyl, imidazolyl, thiazolyl or tetrazolyl gp. which is opt. mono- or poly-substd. by halogen and/or nitro and/or 1-4C alkyl) are prepd. by reacting 1 mol. amine-, phenol- or hydrazine deriv. having formula Ar-X-H with 0.5-2 mol CC13-COO-CC12-CC13, at 0-200 deg.C. The reaction proceeds smoothly, even at low temps., using easily available CC13-COO-CC12-CC13. Quantitative yields of (I) can be obtd.
