<p>A gas washing plant operating with liq. jet comprises a generally horizontal, rectangular casing, into which the liq. jet enters horizontally to pass along a horizontal jet pipe: this pipe is mounted near the top of the casing, above the liq. sump level, and a pump draws liq. from the sump to supply the jet. At the outlet from the jet pipe a transverse baffle plate extending down to the water level completely obstructs the cross-section of the casing except for openings near the top to permit the gas to flow towards the gas outlet. Pref. this plate is concave with a centre of curvature at a horizontal axis, the concave side facing towards the pipe outlet. Used partic. for subsequent installation into already existing plants. As compared with conventional gas washers, which are basically upright with a vertical downward water jet, the new arrangement has a low overall height and can therefore be installed in cramped conditions, e.g. just beneath the ceiling or on a platform or bracket at high level.</p> |
