An arc quenching chamber for current interrupting switchgear breaks up the electric arc into a series of partial arcs between an array of arc chute plates. Plates of electrically conductive magnetisable material alternate with plates of electrically conductive not magnetisable material. The arc quenching chamber (10) with the stationary (12) and moving (11) contacts is equipped with a fan-shaped array of arc suppression plates. Plates made of magnetisable material (18, 110, 112), e.g. iron, pref. hot-dip plated with brass, alternate with non-magnetisable plates (17, 19, 111) e.g. of brass, zinc, cadmium or their alloys. Tests have shown that brass for some of the plates improves the quenching capacity of an arc chute and permits a higher interrupting capacity.
|
