PURPOSE:To reduce distortion, to improve an S/N ratio, and to obtain expansion in high-frequency range, by automatically giving the optimum conditions to the various kinds of magnetic tapes. CONSTITUTION:When switches 13, 20 and 6 are placed at positions 1 respectively, a test signal 12 recorded on a tape 1 through a recording head 4. Then, a reproduction signal reproduced by a reproducing head 5 is analyzed by a processor 19, which adjusts and sets a bias current controller 17 to the best center value, and also sets equalizers 16 and 18 to the best center values. When those switches are changed over to positions 2, the output of a signal source 10 is supplied to the recording head 4 through a level controller 7, but in this case, the output of a spectrum analyzer 14 is applied to the controller 17 in accordance with its spectrum to vary a bias value centering on its center value. Thus, distortion is reduced, an S/N ratio is improved, and high-frequency-range expansion is obtained. |
