<p>Processability of highly filled thermoplastic compsns. formable under heat and pressure and contg. 25-50 wt. % filler (I) is improved by combining the polymer, filler and a dispersion material (II) comprising 0.5-15% fibrous material having an aspect ratio >=10 times that of filler, the (I) being of sufficient length before blending such that its length after blending is 1/8 inch; and intimately blending mixt. Addn. of (II) markedly facilitates dispersion of (I) in compsns., removes difficulties associated with additional melt processing, facilitates handling and feeding of the 'dry blend' in hoppers, conveyors, etc., prevents bridging in hopper and cuases less strain on conventional mixing/extruding equipment. The process enables prodn. of superior quality reinforced filled thermoplastic compsns.</p> |
