<p>Flexible laminates comprises a support fabric coated with a thermoplastic material and bonded back to back with another fabric supporting a hairy or nap surface. The laminates are used esp. for mfr. of synthetic leathers for making shoe uppers (vamps), luggage, handbags, binocular cases, etc. Laminate structure provides material with different characteristics of appearance, wear resistance etc. on opposite faces. The thermoplastic coating and the nap are based on different polymers, pref. are of plasticised PVC and of polyethylene respectively. Pref. the coating is embossed to resemble leather. The support fabrics may be similar or different, pref. woven, opt. paper based. The supports are bonded by a contact adhesive, pref. based on a solvent-free emulsion of polyvinylacetate.</p> |
