Three dimensional patterns are embossed on continuous bands of thermoplastic polymer matl., by extruding a band between the opposing surfaces of endless flexible moulding belts, rolling forward and exerting sufficient pressure on both sides of the sheet of plastic to impress the three dimensional pattern. The endless belts continue their motion applying enough load to hold the contours of the pattern until the temp. is reduced to a point at which the moulded matl. can retain its form, and the embossed plate is then delivered for further treatment. Provides rapid prodn. at low cost using output speeds of 5./min. for plates with contours differing in thickness up. to 25 mm. in widths of 1, 2m, 1, 8m and more, and in lengths 2, 4m, 6m, 12m and more. The pattern belts can be changed in 20-30 mins.
