A governing system for steam turbines comprises an oil pump, which may also supply the lubrication system, supplying oil to two speed governors in series to produce an oil pressure proportional to the speed. This oil pressure acts on a valve controlling the pressure of a fire resistant fluid to produce a fluid pressure proportional to the oil pressure which fluid pressure is used to actuate relay valves or the like in the governing system. e.g. to control the steam admission valve. A second valve may be provided to control the fluid pressure with a change in oil pressure produced by a rise in turbine speed to provide a more rapid response.</p> |
