PURPOSE:To amplify an optical signal by means of Raman gain, by providing two cores and more in the same clad, making an optical fiber of one optical combination with the other, and inputting an optical pumping to one core and an optical signal to the other. CONSTITUTION:It is so selected that refractive indexes n1, n1' of cores 13, 14 are higher than refractive index n2 of a clad 12, and that radii a1, a2 and core slit (d) set the optical combination of propagation through the cores 13, 14 for the wavelength of optical signal. This system 11 is made as long as one period 2l of the combination length l. In this constitution, the incoming optical signal from a fiber 16 propagates through the combination length in the system, moves to the core 13 where an optical pumping propagates. It returns to the core 14 after propagating by (l). It is separated from the optical pumping through an output optical fiber 18, and is output. When the optical pumping and the optical signal propagate through the same core 13 by l', the output will be amplified to PinXexp(gIl') for Raman gain coefficient (g) and input signal Pin. |
