The cut-out device is operated when the brush (1) reaches the limit of its usable length, to retract the remainder of the brush (1) from the collector and interrupt the current. It is incorporated in a blind bore (2) in the brush (1) and comprises an insulating bolt (3) enclosed by a guide sleeve (5) and acted on by a coil spring (4) held between the head of the bolt (3) and the end face of the sleeve (5). The outer surface of the sleeve has a screw thread over at least part of its length engaging a complementary screw thread formed along the sides of the blind bore (2). The brush cit-out device is not affected by vibration or high working temps.
