The insulator is shaped to allow fixing to a range of fence posts. In addition to mounting on a cylindrical wooden post, mounting on the flat face of a hemi-cylindrical wooden post or on a metal pipe is readily achieved. The insulator has an arched section with drilled mounting lugs perpendicular to the plane of the section. Inside the arch a circular section with inwardly projecting flexible ridges in formed, and outside the arch a slotted extension with a hook ended sliding pin is used to retain the electric wire. Fixing to a flat or curved larger diameter post is by screws or wire through the lug holes, while fixing to a metal pipe is by sliding the circular section over the pipe end, the flexible fins bending and gripping different diameter pipes.
