A conventional piston and cylinder extrusion apparatus incorporated a replaceable lining system, which comprises a thin tubular liner 11 covering the bore 5 of the cylinder 4, and two discs 12, 14 substantially closing its ends and enclosing the paste to be extruded. One of the discs 12 has a hole in it of smaller diameter than, and adjacent to the extruding orifice 10 of the cylinder 4; it may have a tubular extension fitting into the orifice 10. The other disc 14 is a slidable fit within the tubular liner 11 and can be moved under the influence of the piston 7 to compress the paste. Preferably the lining system is of polypropylene. The lining system protects the working surfaces from excessive wear caused by contact with paste. <IMAGE> |
