A manual ventilation device has a duct 17 which can be inserted in the inhalation line of an automatic ventilation apparatus. The device has an inlet 7 connected to a pressurised gas supply 6, and allows manual artificial respiration to be effected if the automatic ventilation apparatus fails. During exhalation, the patient exhales through a duct 26 and a ventilation bag 2 is filled with respiratory gas from the supply 6. During inhalation, the ventilation bag 2 is emptied by being squeezed and the contents of the bag 2 flow through valves 15 and 16 and the duct 17 to the patient. A diaphragm 23 keeps the duct 26 closed during inhalation. <IMAGE> |
