Target-seeking missile counteracting enemy defences - uses heat trail of initial missile for course control of subsequent missiles

The weapon system has a number of parallel firing tubes, which fire their missiles sequentially. The hot-exhaust at the back of the first missile is used as the pilot signal for guidance of the subsequent missiles. The missiles may remain strung out along the same flight path, or they may fan out at the top of the latter, so that they then independently home in on the target. Pref. the initial missile is programme controlled during the first part of its flight path. If the initial missile exhibits an abrupt course deviation, the following missiles are automatically released from its control to allow them to locate the target directly.
