The heat sink tube (15) associated with the motor vehicle headlamp serves for conducting the heat, generated in the lamp, to the ambient atmosphere (25). The heat sink tube is fitted to the headlamp reflector (10). If the headlamp is fitted with an inserting reflector, the vertex of the reflector usually carries a lamp containing collar (12) and the heat tube is fitted to this collar. If the vertex section is fitted with a cover cap the heat sink tube is secured to the latter. It may be of rotation symmetrical configuration and may surround coaxially the headlamp optical axis. Thus the lamp collar or the cover cap form the heat zone (19) of the heat tube, while its cooling zone (20) is formed by the heat tube section through which the ambient air flows. The heat tube may be housed in a plastics casing, or may be embedded in a compound mass of plastics, iron, copper, or aluminium particles.
