PURPOSE:To shorten a waiting time, by dividing the stage processing of a cartridge into groups in accordance with its request quantity, and executing the stage processing of a group whose request quantity is small, to one of plural data recording mechanisms. CONSTITUTION:A cartridge is divided into groups such as request 1 - request 4 in accordance with its request quantity. On one side, a data recording mechanism executes an assignment so that its DRD1 processes a group which is <= a prescribed request quantity (30 cylinders), and DRD2 processes a group which is >= the prescribed request quantity. As a result, a large capacity storage controller MSC selects a request 1 from in the waiting line in accordance with a command of a CPU, and since this request is >= the prescribed request quantity, it is processed by the DRD2. A request 2 is made to wait until the request 1 ends, but a request 3 and 4 are processed by the DRD1. In this way, a job whose request quantity is small, that is to say, probability by which the request 3 and 4 are made a waiting state is decreased. |
