PURPOSE:To obtain safe and secure status of charge during the constant potential charge in the overcharging region of an enclosed type alkaline storage battery, by detecting such a fact as the differential coefficient di/dt of the charging current flowing during this stage is positive and stoppong the charge. CONSTITUTION:The overcharging region of an enclosed type alkaline storage battery BT, for exmple, an enclosed type nickel.cadmium storage battery, is charged with a charging current as a constant voltage is impressed between the terminals of the positive and the negative poles by a constant voltage DC power supply A through a switch circuit portion B. At the time of charging this overcharging region, provided that the charging current is (i) and a charging t time is (t), if a differential coefficient di/dt is found to be positive, (for example, the current is detected by a current detecting portion C and the condition di/dt> 0 is judged by a control portion D), the charge is stopped by operating the switch circuit B. |
