A primarily conical, funnel-shaped, stand-off insulator 1 for a metal-encapsulated, gas-insulated switchboard constitutes a wall between two rooms 3, 4 with different gas pressure, wherein during normal operation the highest pressure prevails in the room 3 bounded by the convex surface of the insulator. The insulator is supported by a metal ring 5 installed between two encapsulation sections 2a, 2b, having a support surface 6 with primary dimension transverse to the lengthwise direction of the encapsulation. When excess pressure prevails on the convex surface 1a of the insulator, the insulator 1 is pressed against the support surface 6, and the insulator is primarily subjected to compressive stress. <IMAGE> |
