PURPOSE:To enhance the piezoelectric characteristics of a sintered body by heating a mixture of K2O.nTiO2 fiber with PbO, substituting Pb for K in the K2O.nTiO2 to extend crystals in the direction of the (a) axis, and orienting the extended crystals. CONSTITUTION:Potassium titanate fiber represented by general formula K2O. nTiO2 is mixed with PbO powder or a compound convertible into PbO by heating, and the mixture is heated to produce needlelike, prismatic or platelike tetragonal system lead titanate. At this time, a liberated K component is removed with water or acid. The resulting lead titanate grains are molded so that the plate surfaces are arranged parallel to each other, and the molding is sintered to obtain a sintered body with superior piezoelectric characteristics. |
