Bar-shaped samples of porous rock or core samples are encased as follows for experimentation. (i) The sample is precoated with an araldite (epoxy) resin which is cured and then rubbed down. (ii) The sample is placed in a cylindrical mould, coated with release agent, to which is injected a mixt. of epoxy resin (pref. 1 pt.), hardener (1 pt.) and cement (4 pts.). The mixt. is then polymerized by heat. (iii) The sample is removed from the mould and its casing post-cured by further heating. Used for encasing samples (sides only) before experiments on the percolation of liqs. at high pressure, relating to enhanced oil recovery. The coating is impermeable and durable. It resists pressures of 400 bar axially and 150 bar laterally. It resists water, hydrocarbons and surfactants.
|
