<p>The turntable includes a suspension, a spindle bearing, a platter and a sub-chassis. A cup-shaped member is engaged to the top portion of the spindle and applies pressure on the peripheral edge of the label area of the record to cause the record to engage in suction contact with the mat in order that the vibrations may be transmitted to the mat rather than to the stylus. The lower end of the spindle is made of extremely hard material which rests on a ceramic thrust pad, to prevent vertical motion of the spindle. The bearing assembly has bushings made of a hard plastics material to provide a perfect fit between the spindle and the bearing. The use of plastics material reduces friction and thus decreases the load on the motor and ensures smooth rotation of the spindle in the bearing.</p> |
