PURPOSE:To prepare an optically active ester (and/or acid), with simple means, by the asymmetric hydrolysis of an ester having asymmetric carbon atom with a specific enzyme (or microorganism). CONSTITUTION:An optically active ester and/or acid can be prepared by using an enzyme[e.g. ''Lipase MY '' (product of Meito Sangyo KK)]or microorganism (e.g. Rhizopus delemar IAM6019) capable of asymmetrically hydrolyzing an ester. To be concrete, an optically active compound is prepared by adding the above enzyme, etc. to an ester of formula[R is alkyl; R' is (substituted) alkyl or aryl; X is halogen], carrying out the asymmetric hydrolysis of the ester at about 10-50 deg.C for several hours-several days keeping the pH of the reaction mixture at about 4-7.5 pref. with sodium phosphate buffer solution, etc., and separating the remaining ester and acid by conventional means. |
