A flexible heating element has a resistive heating wire enclosed between laminated films involving a layer of Al foil bearing a thermoplastic coating which can be fused to bond the laminate interface surrounding the heater element. For making heated mats or covers for catering purposes, to heat croissants, dishes, etc. Esp. claims covers each made of three ply laminates where the Al foil, coated internally with polyethylene, is coated externally with a strong film, specifically polyethylene terephthalate. Covered heaters may be made by mounting a conductor (of e.g. Ni/Cr wire wound about a glass filament carrier and sheathed in silicone rubber) on pegs to maintain a serpentine grid and enclosing the central parts of the wire grid and between panels of the fusible laminates to maintain the heater layout while the grid is disengaged from the jig to allow the rest of the heater grid to be enveloped by laminations at e.g. 200 deg.C. and 2 kg/sq.cm. pressure.
|
