<p>A method of reducing the emission of sulphur from sulphur- containing fuel combustion in a fluidized bed comprises injecting a calcinable stone such as limestone into the bed and calcining the stone in the bed to form a calcined material, reacting a portion of the material so formed with SO2 generated in the bed, removing both reacted and unreacted calcined material from the bed, slaking the calcined material in water, and contacting flue gases from the fluidized bed with the slaked material so formed to remove SO2 from the flue gases.</p> |
