<p>The individual segments of the commutator ring are fabricated from a single rectangular copper strip. An undercutting, oblique-sided channel is machined in the strip which is then separated into similar trapezoidal segments by equi-angular alternately inclined cuts. The profiles of the chambers in the segments (1) fit on an annular ring (6) which is made of separated sections thus forming an annular configuration of wedge shapes. The outer faces of the segments are flat. The central metal coupling sleeve, making contact with the commutator plates, is fixed to the rear of the segments in an injection moulding machine. The sleeve has radial projections which anchor the fillet of insulating plastics material which is moulded around the rear of the segment plates. Insulaing material in the mould also penetrates radial gaps between the segments and maintain insulation between segments.</p> |
