The fuel injection nozzle for an internal combustion engine is of the type opening outwards and comprises a valve head (22), which has a frustum-shaped section (25) extending outwards, which ends in a cylindrical part (26), an intermediate space existing between these parts and the wall of a pocket (19) in the valve housing (16). A slot (32) is provided in these parts so that when fuel flows out of this nozzle a generally annular spray pattern is obtained which, owing to these grooves, has a spray jet which possesses an increased penetration capability. <IMAGE>
