Drive mechanisms for rotatable reels often have stoppers for normally holding the reels in a static condition and releasable to permit rotation of the reels on operation of the drive mechanisms. An anti-walk device (72) inhibits rotation of such a reel at least after release of the stopper and substantially until the reel is rotated. A kicker mechanism includes a kicker (94) for engagement with formations of reel drive associated with the reel and capable of moving rapidly while in engagement with such formations and then moving clear of the formations for causing the reel to rotate. However, this can cause the reels to rotate in spite of the anti-walk mechanism if it engages too early. The kicker mechanism of the invention is thus designed for preventing engagement of the kicker (96) with the formations until the anti-walk device is in a position to inhibit rotation of the reel. In the embodiment shown, this is done by pivotally mounting the kicker (96) on a kicker member (88) and providing a camming arm (98) and stop (104) to cause engagement of the kicker at the correct time. <IMAGE> |
