An air cleaning method and apparatus is shown in several designs. According to one series of the designs, an air cleaning method and apparatus (20) is described, in which the air that is to be cleaned is drawn towards and through a filter (41, 42, 43) in a certain direction. Reversing pulses of air are periodically directed through the filter in a direction opposite to the normal direction of flow in order to interrupt the air flow and lead away accumulated particles from the non-cleaned air side of the filter and to facilitate the migration of the particles towards the downstream positioned lower end of the filter (32).In accordance with the other designs of the invention, the construction of functional preliminary treatment apparatus by means of inertia forces is described, these are positioned in close proximity to the unfiltered side of each filter, in order to separate heavy particle-shaped material from the non-cleaned air by using inertia forces prior to filtration. The functional preliminary treatment apparatus using inertia forces can in addition be fitted with connectors, which are controllable during the periodic, reversing pulse, with the purpose of removing the accumulated particles that have come free and to prevent re-penetration into the filter.<IMAGE> |
