The vertical recording device has a linkage (1) and a recording transducer (4) moves w.r.t. the recording medium and according to the measurement value by the linkage. A cable is attached to the linkage unit which moves on guide rods (6,7). The arrangement is very simple and compact and provides a defined application pressure. It operates practically without friction and achieves a high recording speed. The linkage consists of two parts (2,3) working together. One part (2) carries the recording element (4) and the cable (5) is attached to the other part (3). The two parts can rotate w.r.t. each other on the guide rods (6,7) which lie parallel to the axis (B) of the recording medium (8). The recording element is pressed towards the recording medium by a spring (13) acting between the two parts (2,3).
