PURPOSE:To lessen the change in diameter of line and piping loss of a connected rod, by facing the end faces of a pair of preform rods having approximately same diameters with a given interval, heating the rods to make the central parts at higher temperature than the surrounding parts, placing one face opposite another, connecting them. CONSTITUTION:A pair of preform rods 10a and 10b having approximately same diameters consisting of the core parts 11a and 11b and the clad parts 12a and 12b are placed with a given interval in such a way that the end faces 13a and 13b are faced each other. The rotating heating body 17 equipped with the heat source 15 and the ring heater 16 set symmetrically with respect to the rotating shaft 14 is placed between the end faces 13a and 13b, the heat source 15 is operated, the central parts of the rods 10a and 10b are heated and made at higher temperature than the surrounding parts. The shaft 14 is rotated, the heater 16 is placed on the outer periphery side between the rods 10a and 10b, the rods 10a and 10b are placed opposite the shaft, and the connecting parts are heated by the heater 16. In the operation, the heating temperature of the heater 16 is set a little lower than that of the heat source 15. |
