The mechanism is intended for laterally tipping at least one trailer to discharge material therefrom into a chute (9) or the like while the trailer remains coupled (5a) to the towing vehicle (5). It comprises a base frame (7) with a laterally tippable trailer platform and a separate platform (17) for the tractor which, during the tipping operation, is raised and laterally moved while remaining horizontal. The platform may be raised by trunnion-mounted hydraulic cylinder actuators (19) and linked to the frame (7) via swivel arms (18) such that the lift motion causes the platform to move sideways towards the chute.
