The prods. are fed into a continuous furnace, and when they are heated they evolve toxic and ignitable gases. The gases are drawn by suction out of a furnace chamber in which the prods. are being heated, and are fed into other furnace chambers in which the prods. are being cooled. Only waste gases leaving the hottest furnace chamber are fed to an exhaust gas chimney which discharges the gases into the environment. Before entering the chimney, the waste gases are pref. fed through a heat exchanger. Used e.g. in mfg. lightweight bricks or lightweight refractory blocks, where carbonaceous matter in the bricks is burnt during baking to form pores in the prods. Elimination of environmental pollution which would occur if partly burnt gases were released to atmos. In the invention, the gases liberated by the bricks etc. are completely burnt before reaching the atmos.
|
