The tubular supports (3) are rigidly secured to the seat back and are located in cylindrical bores inside a support (2) on which the cushion is fitted. A number of slots on one side of each cylindrical bore are gripped by sprung ratchets (12) at the tops of the tubular supports. The ratchets have U-shaped springs and are press fitted into the open ends of the tubes, and retained by a crimp. Thin walled tubes can be used and a low cost, simple construction is obtained.
