The tubular heat exchanger has coaxial pipe connections, the ends of two pipes being inserted one inside the other and secured together, and the first one being expanded to take the second. At the widened portion, a length of pipe (6,7) bearing against the first pipe (1,2) is slid over it. In addition to this, plates (8,9) with annular collars (10) can be fitted round the first pipe, the collars bearing against it. The wall thickness of the length of pipe can be between 0.25 and 1.5 times that of the first pipe. The latter can be expanded after the pipes, collars and plates have been fitted over it.
